I’m always attracted to a scene like this. The Cape Ann painter, Emile Gruppe would talk about how he liked painting a woodland scene either from an open area looking into the density of the forest or from inside the forest out into an open area. I agree with this whole heartedly. I don’t want the viewer to feel lost in the woods.
